Common bile duct stones (Choledocholithiasis)


The majority of common bile duct stones originate in the gallbladder but some may form within the duct system.


Between 10-14% of pts with gallstones also have stones in the common bile duct.


Ductal stones are responsible for three clinical entities:

Obstructive jaundice

Acute cholangitis

Acute pancreatitis
